Crash Cushions

Hardstaff Barriers provide a comprehensive range of vehicle restraint systems including crash cushions from our sister company Asset International VRS, all of which are Highways England approved and tested in accordance with EN-1317.

QUEST™ CEN

ASSET QUEST™ CEN crash cushion system has been successfully tested using EN 1317-3 criteria for 110 km/h, 100 km/h and 80 km/h levels.

QUADGUARD™ CEN

ASSET QUADGUARD™ CEN crash cushion system is designed to protect motorists in vehicles up to 1,500 kg, from roadside hazards as narrow as 610 mm and as wide as 2,285 mm.

VECU-STOP®

ASSET VECU-STOP® crash cushion system is based on more than forty years of experience in designing road restraint systems.

QUESTCEN

The QUEST CEN system has been successfully tested using EN 1317-3 criteria for the 110km/h level.
Consisting of a series of W-beam fender panels supported by diaphragms, the QUEST CEN features an innovative integrated front trigger mechanism. During impacts, this mechanism releases the support frame assembly to absorb the energy of the impact. The system is designed to telescope rearward during head-on impacts to absorb the energy of impact and to redirect vehicles during side angle impacts.

FAST AND EASY INSTALLATION

The QUEST CEN system is designed for fast and easy installation. The free-standing back-up is only 610 mm wide and the system can be lifted, transported and dropped into place, fully assembled. Only 30 anchors are required for installation.

TRANSITION OPTIONS

Several transition panels are available for the QUEST CEN system including:
• Transition to W-Beam
• Transition to Concrete Median Barrier

SYSTEM FEATURES AND BENEFITS

• Re-directive, bi-directional crash cushion
• All systems fully compliant with EN 1317-3
• Low-cost crash cushion
• Systems available for 3 speed levels (110 km/h, 100 km/h and 80 km/h)
• Lightweight (498 kg for 80 km/h system to 660 kg for 110 km/h system)
• Open framework with galvanised steel components
• Compact design (can be lifted, transported and dropped into place fully assembled)

QUADGUARDCEN

The QUADGUARD CEN System, the next generation of the QUADGUARD CEN Family, is designed to protect motorists in vehicles from 900kg to 1500kg from roadside hazards as narrow as 610mm and as wide as 2,285mm. The QUADGUARD CEN System, has been tested in Europe as a redirective crash cushion to the maximum 110km/h using EN 1317-3 criteria. To fully comply with the definition of a System Type tested crash cushion, the QUADGUARD CEN has been further tested at 100km/h, 80km/h, and 50km/h.
The QUADGUARD CEN family of crash cushions provides a broad range of impact protection for a variety of hazards and speeds, yet shares a number of common components. All members of the QUADGUARD CEN family feature Energy' exclusive Quad-Beam fender panels, which provide 30 percent higher beam strength than conventional thrie-beam. The interchangeability of parts in the QUADGUARD CEN family significantly reduces stock requirements.

QUICK AND EASY REFURBISHMENT

During head-on impacts at speeds up to 110km/h, the QUADGUARD CEN System telescopes rearward, crushing the cartridges and effectively dissipating the energy of both light cars (900kg) and large sedans (1500kg). During angle impacts at angles up to 15, the vehicles are safely redirected back into the original travel path. After a design impact, the QUADGUARD CEN System can be quickly and easily refurbished by a two man team. The majority of the components typically are reusable after a design impact.

SYSTEM FEATURES AND BENEFITS:

• Re-directive, bi-directional crash cushion
• All systems fully compliant with EN 1317-3
• Systems available in 5 widths (from 61cm to 2.3m)
• Systems available for 4 speed levels (110km/h, 100km/h, 80km/h and 50km/h)
• Quick and easy, on-site refurbishment
• Replaceable energy-absorbing cartridges
• QuadBeam panels and diaphragms provide smooth redirection during side impacts
• Up to 95% reusability after impact
• Variety of transitions available
• Also available on a steel plate for temporary protection at road-works

ASSET VECU-STOP®

The progressive concept of the ASSET VECU-STOP® crash cushion system is based on more than forty years of experience in designing road restraint systems.
With specific models ideal for use with ASSET VARIOGUARD® and ASSET ZONEGUARD® the ASSET VECU-STOP® crash cushion provides protection for both road workers and road users on temporary installations.
All models of the ASSET VECU-STOP® crash cushion system consist of hollow cylinders arranged in rows. They are highly effective energy and impact absorbing elements which are guided by a steel wire rope system. Once installed, the system elements of the ASSET VECU-STOP® crash cushion do not require any maintenance.
Full corrosion protection is provided by a hot-dipped galvanised finish. All components are made of steel and may be completely recycled.
The usual method of anchorage for permanent installation is to install a pre-fabricated steel former, then fill it with concrete. Threaded anchorages welded to the reinforcing bars enable the ASSET VECU-STOP® crash cushion to be bolted straight into place, on the reinforced concrete foundation.
